We all likely agree and understand that small businesses are the backbone of our community. They represent and feed our local economy, while often knowing many of the local challenges our neighbors and family experience daily. In fact, and I don't care who you are, it's always a feel-good moment when a company representative knows your name and you may even know theirs. The use of e-commerce and on-line communications keep things simple for many of our everyday needs, but we also understand the personal factor goes out the window. When it comes to a representative entering your home or business, I expect it's a much more comfortable interaction when you know them and not have to deal with different folks each time. This should not be considered a luxury.
Is cost a factor? Of course, and some might argue national providers get materials for less, and thus will pass the savings along. Although that would be awesome, most often those cost savings and more will get lost in overhead and higher profit margin expectations. On the labor side of things, talented and skilled trade employees will not choose to stay employed with any company if not compensated and treated accordingly, regardless of it being a large corporation or a small business... so no savings there either.
Knowing the business is sound and will be around in the years to come is a valid consideration. This part of decision making can easily be weighed out based on past longevity and a proven track record with overcoming obstacles that all businesses experience over time. Reviews are clearly one of the easiest ways to learn about the culture of a company and their ability to work through any hiccups that may arise.

We are human and make mistakes from time to time. When it occurs, we learn from them and will always swiftly correct it. No red tape or need to go up an endless ladder of people to make it right.
